*A new study has put numbers behind what many already suspected: Kanye West has become the most canceled figure in entertainment history, and the consequences have moved far beyond the court of public opinion.
Digital entertainment platform JB.com published its findings in May 2026 after analyzing the volume of negative press coverage, Reddit debate activity, and public cancellation calls across a wide range of celebrities. Each subject received a composite score reflecting the combined weight of all three factors.
West claimed the top spot by a significant margin. His name has surfaced in 68 million unfavorable media stories, and nearly 95,000 Reddit threads have been dedicated to dissecting his conduct. Legal troubles have followed him throughout his career, with somewhere between 25 and 30 lawsuits attached to his name.

Two distinct periods defined his public unraveling: the first came in late 2022, when antisemitic statements led Adidas and Gap to sever ties with him; the second arrived in early 2026 and escalated into territory rarely seen for a musician. British authorities refused him entry, French officials pursued a performance ban, and the mayor of Marseille went on record calling West unwelcome, branding him an advocate for Nazism.
The CEO of JB.com noted the significance of that shift. “Kanye’s situation is different from most celebrities who get canceled. He’s not just dealing with angry tweets or lost endorsements anymore. This is the first time we’re seeing governments step in rather than just social media or sponsors.”
Elon Musk finished second on the list. Close to 50 million critical pieces have been published about him, spanning his business conduct, political positions, and stewardship of X. Backlash against him peaked in October 2025, and his name turns up in roughly 90,000 Reddit threads tied to scandal and controversy.
Amber Heard placed third, generating 18.8 million negative headlines, a figure nearly double that of Johnny Depp despite both being central figures in the same defamation trial. Depp ranked fourth and, unlike Heard, emerged from the proceedings with much of his public standing restored.

Andrew Tate rounded out the top five with more than 54 million critical articles tied to his removal from major platforms in 2022 over misogynistic content and two active lawsuits in Romania connected to human trafficking and organized crime allegations.
YouTuber Logan Paul came in at number six, accumulating 18.8 million negative mentions with his peak controversy hitting in June 2021. Author J.K. Rowling landed at number seven with 6.7 million negative headlines, her backlash peaking in March 2022 amid ongoing debate over her public statements on gender identity.
Beauty influencer James Charles took the number eight spot with a staggering 494.6 million negative mentions, the highest raw figure on the entire list, with his cancellation peak arriving in November 2025. Actor Ezra Miller ranked ninth with 3.3 million negative mentions concentrated around August 2022.
Sean “Diddy” Combs closed out the top ten with 5.4 million negative media mentions, his peak cancellation period landing in December 2025 following mounting legal and personal controversies.
