*A new romantic comedy is making its debut on one of the biggest stages in Black film. “Funny Feelings,” starring Tristan Mack Wilds and Pretty Vee, is set to premiere at the 30th Annual American Black Film Festival in Miami, Florida on Thursday, May 28. The screening will be held in Screening Room 1 at the Miami Beach Convention Center at 5:10 PM.
Directed by Rhonda Baraka, the film rounds out its cast with Chadwick Farley, Etienne Maurice, Pastor Mike McClure Jr., Terri J. Vaughn, Danielle LaRoach, and Kinyumba Mutakabbir. At its core, “Funny Feelings” is a story about friendship, fame, and the emotions people bury beneath the surface of their public personas.
The film centers on Nick and Zoey, best friends who met during their college years at an HBCU, connected by a shared love of comedy and an undeniable chemistry. Years later, Zoey has built a following as a rising podcast star while Nick tours the country as a stand-up comedian. Together, their signature two-person act has earned them a devoted fanbase that cannot stop debating whether the pair are more than friends, per the synopsis.

That ambiguity is very much part of the brand — but the lines between performance and reality start to blur. Mixed signals, missed timing, and unspoken feelings have long defined their dynamic, and when old wounds and new rivals enter the picture, Nick and Zoey can no longer hide behind the act. A long-distance relationship, a surprise proposal, and a high-stakes JesterStream special collide in a way that forces everything into the open — including an onstage moment that goes viral for all the wrong reasons.
What follows strips away the punchlines entirely. Raw confessions surface, professional dreams wobble, and social media turns their most vulnerable moments into clickbait. Ultimately, Nick and Zoey are forced to reckon with the fear of love, the cost of vulnerability, and the possibility that their greatest performance was pretending they were never in love at all.
With its ABFF premiere just around the corner, “Funny Feelings” arrives as one of the more compelling romantic comedies to watch in 2026. Watch the trailer above.
