*Flavor Flav walked into a Clark County Commission meeting on May 19 with one goal in mind, and he left with exactly what he came for.
The rapper and women’s sports advocate secured official approval for his “SHE Weekend” celebration, a four-day Las Vegas event set to honor over 100 female athletes from July 16 through July 19, PEOPLE reports.
The meeting did not get off to the smoothest start. As Flav stepped up to address the commissioners at the Clark County Government Center, he bypassed the standard procedural requirement of identifying himself and jumped directly into his pitch. Commissioner Michael Naft stopped him mid-speech to correct the oversight, drawing laughter from those in the room.

“I’m sorry to interrupt you. My colleagues are reminding me that we need your name for the record,” Naft said. Flav, who goes by William Jonathan Drayton Jr. legally, responded good-naturedly. “Oh, I’m sorry! My name is Flavor Flav – William Drayton a.k.a. Flavor Flav. I’m sorry, guys,” he said, as Naft joked, “We’re strict around here.”
With introductions sorted, the Public Enemy hype man made his case to the board. “I just want to say thank you for giving me the opportunity and I’m honored, you know what I’m saying, to be able to bring these United States Olympic athletes here to Las Vegas. I am a girl dad and I am a big supporter of women’s sports,” he told the commissioners.
Following the approval, Flav took to Instagram to share the news. “Attention! Attention! This is Flavor Flav in the building. I gotta let everybody know right now, G. Yo, my Flavor Flav’s SHE Weekend just got approved officially today by the commissioners boy!” he posted.
Backed by sponsors Delta and MGM, the event positions itself as a movement rather than a moment. According to materials shared at the meeting, it is intended as “a call to action – a platform for lasting social change in women’s sports. The start of a tradition, in Las Vegas, Nevada, honoring and uplifting female athletes everywhere.”
