Directed by Kristen Lappas and Sarah Springer, the documentary combines historical footage, cultural reference points, and contemporary achievements to trace women’s basketball’s journey from grassroots origins to international prominence. The narrative centers on the exceptional 2023-24 South Carolina Gamecocks season and Staley’s remarkable coaching legacy.
Basketball luminaries featured in the film include Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, Sue Bird, Geno Auriemma, Aaliyah Boston, Rebecca Lobo, and A’ja Wilson, among others. These conversations provide multigenerational perspectives on the sport’s transformation over half a century.

Staley is a former professional basketball player and a highly accomplished coach who now leads the University of South Carolina women’s basketball program. She starred as a point guard at the University of Virginia, played several seasons in the WNBA, and earned multiple Olympic gold medals as a member of Team USA. Staley later guided the U.S. women’s national team to an Olympic championship as head coach and is recognized for winning the Naismith Award both on the court and from the sidelines.
