*Damon Dash has been slapped with a $4 million judgment in a defamation case filed by Josh Webber.
According to the legal documents, Webber accused Dash of damaging his reputation and causing him to lose a major project due to defamatory remarks made on the Earn Your Leisure podcast, TMZ reports.
In his suit, Webber detailed how he was denied a $4 million opportunity to produce and direct after Dash’s harsh statements about him. On the podcast, Dash allegedly claimed that Webber had stolen from him during their past dealings over the film “Dear Frank.” The exact quote from Dash, as noted in the suit, reads: “I had a judgment. And I knew this d***head Chris Brown and Josh Webber and Muddy Waters … Chris Brown the lawyer. I went through four trials with the same lawyer … What I lost was defamation because these guys trigger me and steal my s*** … you think there is freedom of speech, it’s really not.”
Dame’s remarks stem from a long-standing legal battle with Webber over “Dear Frank,” a movie that led Dash to owe Webber and the production team over $800,000 in a previous court ruling. But according to Webber, it wasn’t just the legal dispute that hurt him—it was the podcast episode itself. The clip quickly garnered hundreds of thousands of views, further spreading Dash’s accusations.
As Webber explained, the fallout from Dash’s comments prompted the cancellation of the lucrative $4 million gig, a decision he claims was rooted in Dash’s public allegations of theft. With the court’s ruling, Dash now finds himself on the hook for millions.
