*Colman Domingo has parted with his longtime midcentury home in Downey, California, closing a sale that came in at $2.135 million.
The deal edged past the asking range of roughly $2.05 million and moved quickly after the property entered the market in early March, ultimately securing a buyer within a matter of weeks, Mansion Global reports.
The residence was purchased in 2018 by Domingo and his husband, Raúl Domingo, for $1.15 million. Set about half an hour outside Los Angeles, the home became a long-term personal project as well as a preserved architectural space. Attention toward the property intensified after Domingo shared it on social media. That post reportedly led the eventual buyer—a doctor—to take an unexpected detour to see the property while returning from the Indian Wells Open, despite having no prior connection to Downey.
Originally designed in 1964, the Hofkin Residence was built by architect Jules Salkin, who worked alongside influential designer John Lautner. The single-level home spans 3,450 square feet and includes four bedrooms, with much of its midcentury identity still intact.
During their ownership, the Domingos made careful updates that preserved the home’s original character. That approach earned recognition from the Downey Conservancy, which acknowledged the quality of the restoration work.
Inside, defining features remain prominent, including wood paneling, a teak kitchen, custom built-ins, and exposed beamed ceilings. One of the most striking design details is a multicolored tile wall in the primary bathroom, created from surplus pieces used in mosaic tunnels at Los Angeles International Airport. The same tiles have appeared in “Jackie Brown” and “Mad Men.”
The sale arrives as Domingo continues a high-profile stretch in his career, including the final season of “Euphoria” and his role in the film “Michael,” where he portrays Joseph Jackson.
