*A violent attack on a Chicago mother and her children has sparked community fury after video of the incident spread across social media.
The footage shows the family being confronted and beaten by a group of unhinged students as they left Orville Bright Elementary School on Monday afternoon on the Far South Side. The next morning, a crowd gathered outside the school, demanding immediate action and consequences for those involved.
Authorities say the victims were assaulted in the South Deering neighborhood. The viral video shows the group approaching the pregnant woman and her two minor children as they walked home and striking them repeatedly. In the clip, Corshawnda Hatter, 33, and her children are being followed, surrounded, and ultimately assaulted by several young students. The woman and her 9-year-old son were hospitalized in serious condition following the attack.
I haven’t seen this much evil in a long time. This video had me up all night calling everyone I know trying to find out where this happened.

Hatter spoke out after the incident outside the school on Tuesday, describing how the confrontation began. “They were literally waiting (along) the way we walk home, just to jump all of us,” she said. Hatter explained that she tried to move her children across the street to avoid conflict, but was followed. “So we kept walking. They followed us all the way. … And then they fought my son and hit my son first. … Then they dragged me in the grass and pulled my little baby’s hair out.”
Hatter noted this was not the first time her child had been bullied at the school, expressing hope it would be the last. “I’m trying to get justice for my son,” she said.
Hatter and her family met with school administrators that morning, escorted by police as supporters rallied nearby. State Sen. Willie Preston, who joined the meeting, said the family is deeply shaken. “We have written every single anti-bullying policy in the book. We’ve legislated that but if it’s not working, we need to legislate something stronger,” he said.

Chicago Public Schools issued a statement calling the attack horrifying. “We are horrified by the attack on this family, and we are working collaboratively with City departments and agencies to provide support to the victims of the attack,” the district said.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson also responded to the video in a post on X. “I was deeply disturbed to see the video of young people attacking a mother and her child on the Far South Side yesterday afternoon,” he wrote, calling the behavior unacceptable and stressing the need for increased support, mental health resources, and continued vigilance. “Our students and families should always feel safe on their way to and from school and we must make the critical investments necessary to make that a reality in every part of our city.”
Police are still investigating what led to the attack, and no arrests have been made. Officers will maintain a presence outside the school throughout the week as the community continues to push for answers and accountability.

Two mothers of children involved in the assault have posted videos online—one appearing to call out her son publicly, while the other shows a girl smirking through what many viewers have described as “crocodile tears.” Both videos are circulating widely.
In the first clip, a girl accused of taking part in the beating speaks alongside her mother, offering an apology. Her mother urges viewers to “keep it respectful—this is a child,” while the girl’s expression has led many online to question the sincerity of her remorse. Watch the clip below.
One of the girls who assaulted Corshawnda and her children popped up on video with her mother giving a so-called apology. But let’s be real..that didn’t look genuine at ALL. The story is so disturbing that funnyman and Chicago native Godfrey had to give his (serious) take on the situation.
