*Busta Rhymes will officially join Hollywood’s iconic ranks on Friday, August 1, receiving the 2,818th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The event takes place at 11:30 a.m. PT at 6201 Hollywood Boulevard and will be livestreamed on the Walk of Fame website.
The honor comes under the Recording category and will feature Big Boy as emcee, with tributes from Chris Rock, LL Cool J, and Chuck D.
“Thirty-five years of professional recording is a long earning of my rite to passage,” Busta told CBS Mornings. “I’m just glad they decided it’s time for me. Everything is divine timing.”
Born Trevor Smith, the Brooklyn-born and Long Island-raised artist launched his music career with Leaders of the New School before breaking out solo with 1996’s “The Coming.” His discography includes hits like “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See,” “Break Ya Neck,” and “Touch It.” His accomplishments span over 20 million albums sold, 12 Grammy nominations, and more than 60 million gold and platinum certifications.
Fans can catch Busta on the big screen in the reboot of “The Naked Gun,” starring alongside Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson.
“The thing I loved the most of experiencing the film was that the director [Akiva Schaffer] gave me a lot of opportunity to improvise,” he shared. “We had an incredible amount of fun on the set.”
Ana Martinez, Hollywood Walk of Fame producer, called Busta “one of hip-hop’s most enduring and electrifying voices,” noting that his star “will stand as a testament to his lasting impact on hip-hop music and how important it is to the American culture.”
