*Busta Rhymes capped off an extraordinary month with two prestigious honors recognizing his indelible mark on hip-hop. On August 17, the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce presented him with the Hip Hop Icon Award during Harlem Week’s closing event at St. Nicholas Park in New York City.
As Complex reports, the same park saw a performance by his son, Trillian Wood-Smith, adding a personal touch to the celebration. Coinciding with this accolade, the Caribbean Elite Group announced that Busta will receive the Elite ICon Award at the 2025 Caribbean Music Awards, further cementing his global influence.
Earlier in August, the rap legend was also immortalized with the 2,818th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, joined by hip-hop pioneers LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, and Chuck D. At the Hollywood ceremony, LL Cool J praised Busta’s artistry, saying, “When I think about Busta Rhymes, it’s awe-inspiring power, commitment to his craft, and commitment to excellence as an artist and performer. Busta was born to do something universal.”
Chuck D echoed the sentiment, emphasizing Busta’s originality: “You can try to imitate Busta, but you can’t duplicate him.” Visibly moved during his acceptance speech, Busta reflected on his journey. “I worked so hard and I never asked for a shortcut, I never asked for a cheat code,” he said. “I was never raised by a support system that made it seem okay to try to go around honestly earning your rite to passage. I want to thank those people.”
The rapper expressed gratitude to key figures, including Epic Records CEO Sylvia Rhone, but reserved his deepest appreciation for his mother. “My mom is my greatest superhero,” Busta said. “My father, too, but the reason why I’m leaning so much on my moms is ’cause my mother and my father had two different approaches in how they wanted to do whatever they could to secure the win for me.”
