Birdman was recently honored as one of the first 50 inductees on New Orleans’ Walk of Fame, alongside notable figures like Tyler Perry, Percy ‘Master P’ Miller, Big Freedia, and Ellen DeGeneres. The ceremony took place on Canal Street during Super Bowl festivities, recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to the city. The initiative, led by Master P as New Orleans’ entertainment ambassador, also honored Saints and Pelicans owner Gayle Benson and her late husband Tom Benson, whom Master P credited as an early inspiration.
“I was at the Superdome selling popcorn at 15 years old, and y’all know I went from the popcorn man, to the ice cream man to creating an empire and Mr. Benson told me, I said Mr. Benson I’m going to be a star one day and I’m going to have a business and I’m going to make a lot of money and he laughed, he said man, I know you can do it. And to be able to be here and to put this Fleur-de-lis on Canal Street in his honor and wife Mrs. Gayle Benson, thank you,” Miller said, per FOX 8 Live.

Miller said the Walk of Fame grew out of an idea.
“Me and my wife we go back and forth so we try to figure out what we’re going to do, and so I was like, this is so needed for our city,” said Miller. “We’ve got so many great trailblazers that never get recognized and I said, we want to put these fleur-de-lis on the ground on Canal Street and I got to give all the glory to God because with him we couldn’t be here to do this,” Miller said.
FOX 8 Live reports that the late Mayor Ernest “Dutch” Morial, New Orleans’ first Black mayor, was posthumously inducted into the Walk of Fame. Additionally, the victims of the New Year’s Day terrorist attack on Bourbon Street were recognized in the ceremony.
