*Over 30 years since it first hit shelves, “The Best of Sade” continues to find fresh chart success. The beloved greatest hits compilation has broken into the top 10 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart for the first time, rising from No. 12 to No. 10 this week as reported by Forbes.
This landmark placement arrives more than a year after the album initially landed on the R&B ranking in August 2024. The persistent climb speaks to an enduring appetite for Sade’s sound, fueled by streaming platforms that keep exposing the band’s catalog to younger audiences.
The R&B chart breakthrough is new territory, but the album has been a dominant force on jazz rankings for some time. “The Best of Sade” has reigned atop Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Albums chart for a staggering 79 straight weeks. It also captured the No. 1 position on the broader Jazz Albums chart during its 30th week on that ranking, another first for the group.
Gains are visible across other Billboard rankings as well. The collection advanced from No. 33 to No. 30 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and moved up from No. 103 to No. 90 on the Billboard 200.
The compilation dropped in 1994, pulling together tracks from the group’s opening four studio projects: “Diamond Life,” “Promise,” “Stronger Than Pride,” and “Love Deluxe.” Timeless selections like “Smooth Operator,” “The Sweetest Taboo,” and “No Ordinary Love” sit alongside deeper offerings including “Jezebel,” “Like a Tattoo,” “Please Send Me Someone to Love,” and “Pearls.”
With four-times platinum certification from the RIAA, the album has achieved the equivalent of four million units in U.S. sales and streams. Sade also returned with new music in 2024, contributing “Young Lion” to the Red Hot Organization’s trans-inclusive EP “Transa: Selects.”
