*The BBC has unveiled a teaser for the upcoming second season of “Doctor Who,” set to premiere in 2025.
Ncuti Gatwa returns as the fifteenth Doctor alongside Varada Sethu as Belinda Chandra and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday. The trailer (below), dropped during the annual Christmas Special on Wednesday and features a first look at Sethu as the Doctor’s new companion.
“I feel like the luckiest person in the world. It is such an honor to be a part of the Whoniverse, and I’m so grateful to the whole Doctor Who family – because that is what they are – for welcoming me with open arms and making me feel so at home. I couldn’t ask for a better team than Ncuti and Millie to be on this adventure with. This is SO much fun,” Sethu said in a statement, per Variety.
Russell T Davies returns as showrunner and executive producer, with Joel Collins, Phil Collinson, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter also serving as executive producers. The official synopsis states: “The Doctor meets Belinda Chandra and begins an epic quest to get her back to Earth. But a mysterious force is stopping their return and the time-traveling TARDIS team must face great dangers, bigger enemies and wider terrors than ever before.”

“Right now in the studio, shooting for 2025, we’ve got Ncuti, Millie and Varada fighting side by side – we need all three, because the stakes are higher than ever,” Davies previosuly said.
Gatwa, best known for playing Eric in the hit Netflix series “Sex Education,” said he “didn’t quite realize the magnitude” of Doctor Who before taking on the iconic role.
“And I certainly felt it as soon as actually stepping in, but it’s a magnitude of joy as well,” he said at a screening for this year’s Christmas special titled “Joy to the World.”
“It’s pushed me as an actor and as an artist,” he added.
“It’s just a lot of fun. I get to do a lot of fun things. I’m always in a harness,” the 32-year-old star continued. “Once a week I’m like flying from the ceiling. It’s been a rollercoaster stepping into this institution.”
The fourteenth series of “Doctor Who” premiered in mid-May 2024 and was marketed as “Season One” due to production changes and Disney+ acquiring the show’s international broadcasting rights. The 15th season (AKA Season 2), will debut in May 2025 on BBC and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and on Disney+ internationally where available.
The 2024 Christmas special is on Disney+ in the U.S. and BBC iPlayer.
