*August Alsina and his young partner, Zu, have publicly confirmed their romantic relationship, putting an end to years of speculation.
The R&B singer first hinted at their bond in 2022 on “Surreal Life,” introducing Zu as his “love,” sparking rumors about his personal life. Their coordinated outfits, joint music projects, and intimate appearances for Alsina’s Encina Wellness brand further fueled talk of a romance.
During a recent ATL Pride Weekend event at Opium club, social media buzz questioned the timeline of their relationship, with some claiming Alsina, 32, met Zu, 22, when he was a minor. Zu addressed these allegations on Instagram Stories, stating, “August is my boyfriend.” He clarified, “I met August when I was already of age, an adult. Aug didn’t even know me when I was 16 or 17… not sure where that came from. Yea, there’s a slight age difference but y’all pick and choose who to judge when it comes to that.”

Zu explained their silence was intentional to protect their bond from media scrutiny. “I know I’m not an internet person and prioritize my peace before anything, and protect my relationship, because the media at times can seep in and tarnish beautiful dynamics… but I can see how being quiet, and trying to protect something of value to you, can allow some people to spin the narrative and create a bunch of different scenarios which aren’t true,” he wrote.
Zu added, “Aug gives me a GREAT life, & I’m thankful,” emphasizing, “What y’all don’t know is, that I run this relationship…I call the shots, August just shows up and supports me in whatever I want to do. He supports my dream, He IS A DREAM!”
Alsina took to X to support Zu’s statement and counter critics. Responding to a supporter, he wrote, “Ni**as be so desperate to project their unhappiness and spin a narrative, it’s truly a reflection of the deeply unhealed inner-child.” He humorously concluded, “Signed -a closeted nigxa.. cus why u as a grown a** man, worried bout another grown man dixk!”
Their posts highlight a relationship built on mutual support, with Zu noting, “We will have known each other for 5 years toward the end of the year, so he’s speaking in future terms because that’s where we plan to make it.”
