“Beyond the Gates” is set in a leafy Maryland suburb near Washington, D.C., in one of the nation’s most affluent African American counties. The show centers on the Duprees, a prominent multi-generational family considered Black royalty, living in an exclusive gated community filled with winding streets, manicured gardens, and luxury homes. Beneath the surface, the community hides scandals, secrets, and dramatic rivalries, with residents inside and outside the gates watching closely as lives intertwine.
Earlier this year, Maurice Johnson, who played Ted Richardson, addressed rumors about his abrupt exit from the show. Johnson, replaced by Keith D. Robinson just a month into his role, clarified on social media that he was not fired and dismissed claims of conflicts with co-star Daphnée Duplaix or performance issues. He thanked fans and the production team for their support and noted that viewers will still see him in over 30 upcoming episodes before his run concludes. Robinson officially debuted as Ted Richardson in May.
Developed and produced by CBS Studios/NAACP Venture under the leadership of Sheila Ducksworth, in collaboration with P&G Studios, “Beyond the Gates” marks a historic moment for daytime television. Distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution, it is the first one-hour Black daytime soap and the first daytime drama to premiere since “Passions” in 1999.
