*Nicki Minaj finds herself entangled in a legal dispute following a lawsuit filed by her former day-to-day manager, Brandon Garrett. The allegations stem from a backstage incident after her April 2024 concert in Detroit.
According to the documents obtained by TMZ, Garrett claims that Minaj physically assaulted him during a confrontation that escalated dramatically.
The lawsuit, represented by attorney Thomas Feher, describes a volatile situation where Garrett was reportedly called to Minaj’s dressing room after running an errand. Upon his arrival, Garrett claims the rapper confronted him alongside her team, becoming furious when she discovered he had sent someone else to pick up one of her prescriptions. Garrett alleges that Minaj launched into a tirade, threatening his career and safety with remarks such as, “You’re a dead man walking,” and “You just f***ed up your whole life.”
The situation allegedly culminated with Minaj striking Garrett on the side of the face, a blow so impactful that it knocked his hat off. Garrett further claims that her security team intervened, and when he attempted to leave, she struck his wrist, causing him physical pain.
Feeling threatened, Garrett locked himself in a restroom at the Little Caesars Arena, where he remained for hours out of fear for his safety, informed his fiancée about the incident, and ultimately felt stranded in Detroit since he wasn’t allowed to board the tour bus back to Chicago.
In response to the lawsuit, Nicki Minaj’s attorney, Judd Burstein, addressed the situation with TMZ, stating that they have not received any formal complaint. He expressed confidence that the allegations are both “completely false and frivolous,” and assured that the matter would be resolved in Minaj’s favor.
This incident has drawn significant media attention and has been the subject of discussions about the pressures and challenges artists face on tour. The volatile dynamics between management and artists can sometimes lead to intense confrontations, although physical violence is a rare extreme.
Garrett is suing Minaj for assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress, seeking damages for his alleged suffering. As the case unfolds, both sides will likely present their arguments, shedding further light on the intricacies of the entertainment industry and the high-stress environments surrounding touring artists.
As of now, there has been no further official commentary from Minaj’s camp on the allegations beyond her lawyer’s initial statements, leaving the entertainment world on standby as the situation develops.
