*Country singer John Rich of Big & Rich took to social media during the 2025 Grammy Awards to criticize Beyoncé’s win for Best Country Album over Lainey Wilson.
Beyoncé, who appeared surprised when “Cowboy Carter” was announced as the winner, also took home Album of the Year and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for her song with Miley Cyrus. Some social media users believe she looked shocked because she didn’t know her husband, JAY-Z, had allegedly paid for the award. Fans are referring to THIS MOMENT when he previosuly called out the Grammys for never awarding Album of the Year to his wife.
“I think sometimes I think genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists,” Beyoncé said during her acceptance speech at the 2025 Grammys on Sunday. “I just want to encourage people to do what they’re passionate about. To stay persistent.”
Rich voiced his disapproval over her win on X, questioning the decision to award her in the country category, Too Fab reports.
“Beyoncé wins ‘Best Country Album’ at The Grammys??Way to go??,” he stated.

When a fan responded, “Of course, the Grammys had to push their agenda instead of actually honoring real country artists. Total joke!” Rich replied, “?show”
“There’s NO WAY her album was better than Lainey Wilson’s Whirlwind, I don’t get it,” Rich added. “Record labels making deals on the votes.”
He continued: “Folks are asking me ‘how do music award shows work?’ Labels/publishers all have blocks of votes. They make deals with each other ‘you vote for mine, we’ll vote for yours’ type thing. It has ZERO to do with who made the best music, thus, Beyonce with ‘Country album of the year.’ Nice, right?”
“The same thing is true with the CMA’s, ACM’s, Billboard, etc…all work exactly the same. Last night, the Grammy’s outed themselves in a big way,” he posted.
