*Season 2 of “Twisted Metal” is revving into overdrive, and stars Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz are opening up about their characters’ explosive evolution, emotional detours, and high-stakes reunions. The Peacock original—based on the iconic PlayStation franchise—blends demolition derby chaos, new love, and the bond between Mackie’s John Doe and Beatriz’s Quiet is right at the center of the storm.
When asked if their characters are bonded by trauma or fate, Beatriz didn’t hesitate.
“In season two, you’re the first person to mention trauma bonding. I don’t know that John and Quiet would call it that—but probably a little bit,” Mackie admitted. “No, there’s no trauma here. I am not a romantic. I’m 100% invested, involved, and want my Quiet for myself.”
Still, Beatriz acknowledges that their chemistry is anything but simple. “They come together, then they’re torn apart, and then they come together again. Are they gonna stay together? Are they teammates or adversaries? That remains to be seen in Season 2.”
One of the biggest shifts this season is the arrival of two new relationship disruptors: Quiet’s fierce mentee, Mayhem, and John’s long-lost sister, Dollface. These new ties complicate an already charged dynamic between the two leads.
“It took some of the focus away,” said Mackie. “John’s love and appreciation for Quiet has never wavered. Even at the end of Season 1, he was ready to risk it all—and she said no.” That emotional tug-of-war is part of what makes their storyline so compelling. “They’ve become adults in this horrifying time,” Beatriz added. “This is really the first time they’re experiencing something like: ‘Are we a team? Are we really doing this?’ It taps into that adolescent feeling of uncertainty—even when you’re grown.”
Mackie spoke about John’s internal struggle as he navigates what it means to finally have the family he always wanted. “He’s used to being on his own,” he said. “Now he has Quiet, who he trusts more than his own sister. So instead of splitting his focus, it becomes a shared focus.”
When asked about the emotional demands of the role, Beatriz pointed to the shifting ground beneath her character’s feet. “Is she going to be with John? Will she keep her word to Dollface? How much is she willing to risk for Mayhem? The goal was always to keep Quiet grounded and real—whether it’s a big emotional moment or a fart joke.”

With new characters like Axel, Vermin, and Mr. Grimm entering the fray—and a sinister tournament hosted by the mysterious Calypso—the second season expands the world of Twisted Metal while staying rooted in character-driven storytelling. The emotional arcs of John and Quiet provide the heart amid the chaos, blood, and bullet holes.
