The on-air tension arose while the two debated Elon Musk’s political donations and their ethical implications, Vibe reports. Rye argued that Musk’s financial contributions—totaling $6,600 to seven Republican lawmakers—should be considered a “quid pro quo,” suggesting the billionaire was buying political influence. As O’Leary animatedly gestured while responding, he made physical contact with Rye who abruptly intervened.
“He literally tweeted to members of Congress… you don’t have to touch me!” Rye snapped.
O’Leary, caught off guard, attempted to downplay the moment. “I did that nicely,” he claimed. “I don’t want you to touch me,” Rye reiterated.

Despite the tension, Rye continued her argument, underscoring that Musk had thanked the lawmakers who received his donations.

Attempting to shift the conversation, O’Leary broadened the discussion to political fundraising.
