*The Weeknd continues to run things over at Spotify, with another history-making first to add to his stock.
Tribune reports the “Die For You” vocalist shattered his own Spotify record as the first artist to reach more than 120 monthly listeners on the platform.
The feat is a double first, as The Weeknd breathes rare air with breathing rare air with becoming the first artist to have 19 songs surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify. As noted by Tribune, no other musician has achieved this on Spotify.
Guessing on the reason behind the Weeknd’s latest accomplishment on the outlet, Tribune partially gives credit to the entertainer’s Playboi Carti, collaboration “Timeless” for contributing to the rising numbers
In related news … Abel Tesfaye has been steadily unveiling “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” an album expected to be his final release as the Weeknd. The promotion strategy has included tantalizing song snippets enhanced by vibrant visuals, a lavish concert event in Brazil, and two official singles: “Dancing In The Flames” and “Timeless.”
While we still lack a release date and tracklist for the album, a lo-fi recording of a new song has recently surfaced.
Currently, Tesfaye is performing in Australia, according to Stereogum. During his show at Sydney’s Accor Stadium, he blasted an unreleased track titled “Open Hearts” through the sound system at an overwhelming volume. A preview of this high-energy dance track can be found below.
Additionally, Tesfaye, err, The Weeknd made waves by performing “One Of The Girls,” a song from “The Idol,” live for the very first time at his Sydney concert. He also shared the stage with Travis Scott just three days earlier at Allianz Stadium, where they performed several tracks together.
By the way, The Weeknd’s historical Spotify moves come as he gears up to release one of the most anticipated albums of the year, “Hurry Up Tomorrow.” The offering is noted for marking the conclusion of the singer’s “After Hours Til Dawn” trilogy as well as the final compilation under “The Weeknd” moniker.
