*A winning trip to a casino turned into a news-making bust for Nelly, who won big but got more than he bargained for. According to The Blast, the ‘Country Grammer’ rhymesayer decided to try his luck at the Hollywood Casino in in his home state of Missouri.
Despite winning huge with a $50,000 jackpot from a slot machine, Nelly’s good night at the St. Charles-based casino came to an end when he encountered law enforcement at the location. By the way, if you’re wondering … YES, the St.Louis rapper collected his $50K in winnings before getting arrested.
The entertainer’s attorney, Scott Rosenblum, detailed the incident surrounding his client’s arrest, saying Nelly collected his winnings before getting arrested. Rosenblum mentioned that it was the St. Lunatics leader’s earnings that triggered the event in question.
The arresting officer, the lawyer said, claimed they needed to run a background check before giving him the money. Although the move was odd to Nelly and he had won larger amounts at the same casino without going through a background check, Rosenblum stated the rapper agreed to the investigation. It was then that things went south as the officer discovered Nelly had an active warrant for a traffic stop issue.
In its report, TMZ mentioned the finding resulted in the arresting officer searching Nelly’s bags, where they allegedly found ecstasy. Despite the alleged finding, Rosenblum pointed out that prosecutors haven’t charged Nelly with drug possession.

For Nelly (born Cornell Iral Haynes Jr.), the blame doesn’t fall on the active warrant that triggered his arrest. It was the arresting officer who ran the background check. As a result, Rosenblum revealed Nelly’s intent to have the officer investigated for searching the rap star without probable cause.
Those familiar with the incident claim Nelly initially thought his arrest was a prank or joke when the open warrant was revealed via a background check. At the time, the rhymer was in the middle of cashing in on his $50,000 earnings.
Nelly was then handcuffed to a chair with one hand free to collect the remaining money, insiders said, adding that once he had the money, authorities handcuffed both his wrists and escorted him out of the casino.
News of the bust and Nelly’s arrest comes amid major happenings in his personal and professional life.
The Blast notes that a year before his headline-grabbing incident, Nelly finalized a deal with HarbourView Equity Partners to sell part of his music catalog. The hit-filled catalog, reportedly worth $50 million, included some of Nelly’s biggest hits such as “Ride Wit Me,” the Kelly Rowland-featured chart-topper “Dilemma” and fellow No. 1 single “Hot in Herre.”
Under the agreement, 50% of Nelly’s recorded music is covered.

“As artists, we put our heart and soul into each track, and there comes a time when you consider preservation of that artistry,” an excited Nelly said in a statement about the sale while noting his partnership with Harbourview.
“My music is my legacy, which I want to last beyond me, continuing to make my existing fans happy while reaching new generations and new audiences.” Nelly continued, noting his excitement to partner with Harbourview.
Romantically, the “Air Force Ones” superstar is enjoying his renewed romance with former The Inc. Records singer Ashanti. The pair, who were on and off from 2003-2013, are clearly back with marrying on December 2023 and later confirming the expected arrival of their first child together.
