*Folks in St. Louis faced a surprising incident early Wednesday morning when hometown boy-made-good rapper Nelly was arrested by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Nelly, whose birth name is Cornell Haynes II, was taken into custody just before 4:45 a.m. in St. Louis County.
Nelly, 49, is facing charges of possession of a controlled substance after police discovered four ecstasy pills during what was described as a routine patrol. Following his arrest, the Missouri State Highway Patrol transferred Nelly to the Maryland Heights Police Department. There, he faced an additional arrest related to a failure to appear warrant stemming from a prior traffic charge in the St. Louis suburb.
According to an official statement from the Maryland Heights Police Department to NBC News on Wednesday, Nelly has since been released from custody. However, as of now, no formal charges have been filed against the rapper.
Fans and the public alike are keenly watching how the legal proceedings will unfold. Nelly’s representatives have yet to comment on the incident. The rapper’s latest brush with the law has stirred conversations regarding celebrity accountability and the justice system’s handling of such cases.
