*Former NBA standout Sebastian Telfair is making his views known about NBA wives. During an interview with DJ Vlad, Telfair stated that 90% of the women married to NBA players are gold diggers.
As for who is to blame, the ex-basketball star put it on the players themselves, those who tie the knot with women who are only interested in their money. As a result, Telfair said these women are easily accessible.
“It’s because dudes is dumb and no one’s speaking up. No one advocates for athletes,” the ex-Oklahoma City Thunder star said. “They look at the athlete like, oh, you’re the ones with the money and no one advocates for the athlete.”
“Athlete can’t even say nothing,” continued Telfair.” I’m like, what, that’s bogus. Everyone don’t got LeBron money. LeBron live in a different community than the rest of the players. Yeah. I’m saying 178 players only make one to four million.”
Chronicling Telfair’s experience, Sandra Rose notes how the 38-year-old athlete has done his share of dirt. In 2021, Telfair, who shares two children with ex-wife Samantha Rodriguez, was indicted in New York for allegedly trying to defraud the NBA’s health care plan out of $5 million, along with 18 other folks.
In March 2023, the former sports star pleaded guilty to the healthcare fraud scheme, testifying in court that he participated in the swindle because he needed money to pay legal expenses
“I needed the money for my legal fees,” Telfair told US District Judge Valerie Caproni. “I was accused of a crime I didn’t commit. I was fighting for my life. I am still fighting for my life.”
Telfair’s involvement in the case resulted in a 10-year prison sentence. Currently, he is out on bond while awaiting a decision on his appeal.
Relaying his anti-gold digger stance, Telfair sent a warning to NBA players regarding how things change when their ladies get a ring.
“It’s the players, like, like dudes got to understand that pretty girl that’s on the side of you right now in that nice house, her energy will shift,” he said
Telfair noted the shift in divorces among athletes, pointing out that the divorce rate was seven out of 10 for NBA players when he entered the league. As it stands now, that amount has increased to nine out of 10 players getting divorced.
“Nine out of ten. Kevin Garnett got a divorce. Shaq got a divorce. Michael Jordan got a divorce,” he explained.” So, I wanna tell you, this is for all the players. I’ll be the bad guy, I’ll be the one. Like, what Shorty saying next to us ain’t it.”
