*Mo’Nique finds herself in the midst of a messy family dispute as her firstborn, Shalon Jackson, fires back in response to her recent comments on Club Shay Shay about parenting. Jackson took to TikTok to share his perspective, aiming to set the record straight.
In his 10-minute video, Jackson expressed his desire to “free her from having to continue telling that lie.”
He read from a written statement to maintain composure and clarity. The 34-year-old revealed the stagnant state of their relationship, admitting they have no intention of reconciling.
“I would like to free her from having to continue telling that lie,” detailed Jackson. “Faith without work is dead, and neither one of us cares to put forth any effort to reconcile with the other. We are separate as she put it because she doesn’t care to be my mother any more than I care to be her son.”
According to Vibe, neither party has reached out to the other. Jackson also expressed hurt over his mother’s new husband, who doesn’t acknowledge him.
During a previous interview on David Banner’s podcast, Mo’Nique took responsibility for the fractured relationship with her eldest son.
She admitted that during his childhood, she prioritized her career over her role as a mother. Mo’Nique confessed that she was more interested in fame, red carpets, and being a star than being a devoted mother and wife.
“I was interested in being a star and I was interested in being famous. And I wasn’t interested in being a wife. I was interested in taking pictures and red carpets, and signing autographs, and traveling the world, so I really didn’t put the focus in.”
Anticipating criticism, Jackson explained that speaking out provided him with an uninterrupted opportunity to share his thoughts and feelings. He considered it a form of therapy. Although communication between them is lacking, Jackson acknowledged that his mother recognizes her shortcomings in raising him. However, he also noted her reluctance to take full accountability for her actions, only doing so when it suits her convenience.
