*“Being 70 — it’s real,” said Denzel Washington ahead of his milestone birthday on December 28.
“Physically, I’ve dropped 80 pounds in two years,” the Oscar-winning actor shared during a recent media event in Beverly Hills, California, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. “I put on about 15 to 20 pounds of muscle. Now, I’m only interested in the best, using all of what I have to be the best version of me.”
This year has been monumental for him, with a starring role in the box-office sensation “Gladiator II” and producing Netflix’s “The Piano Lesson.” The film marks his youngest son Malcolm’s writing and directing debut, features his oldest son John David in a leading role, and includes his eldest daughter Katia as a producer.
After appearing in more than 50 movies, Washington recently said he’s not interested in taking on new projects if he’s not inspired by the filmmaker.
“At this point in my career, I’m working harder than I ever have,” he said. “I’m trying to do my best work with the best directors. I think the best work I’ve ever done is actually ahead of me.”
The Hollywood icon recently confirmed that he’s returning for two more “Equalizer” movies.
“I told them I would do another Equalizer, and we’re doing 4 and 5,” Washington told Esquire.
“More people are happy about that — people love those daggone Equalizers,” the two-time Academy Award winner added.
“But I’ve come to realize that the Equalizer films are for me, too, because they’re for the people,” continued Washington. “They want me to go get the bad guys. ‘We can’t get them, so you go get them.’ And I say, ‘Okay, I’ll get them! Just wait right there. I’ll be right back!’ ”
The actor starred in all three “Equalizer” movies and also produced the films.
