*The New York Times bestselling book Bad Monkey written by Carl Hiaasen, has come to life in a new series on Apple TV+!
The show stars fan-favorite Vince Vaughn (The Breakup, Couples Retreat), Ronald Peet (First Reformed, Blind Spot), and appearances by funnyman Zach Braff. We sat down for a chat with Peet and Braff to uncover their experiences shooting Bad Monkey.
The series was filmed in Miami and the Bahamas, so it felt “kismet” to Bahamian-born actor Ronald Peet. He revealed he’s never artistically portrayed a Bahamian which caused him to work hard on achieving the accent.
“If I don’t get this right, I’m gonna hear about it from everyone,” said Peet who doesn’t naturally have a Bahamian accent.
As the only Black male principal on the show, he opened up about bringing dignity to his character.
“I was hyper-aware of making sure I treated my character with groundedness and dignity and wasn’t sending him out to be any kind of shade of buffoon,” Peet emphasized this point with Bill Lawrence (creator and showrunner of Bad Monkey) and they both agreed to bring honesty to the role of Neville.
Braff expressed his sentiment towards reuniting with his mentor and former Scrubs colleague, Lawrence. Lawrence reached out to him and said ‘I’d love to see you do it.’
On what it was like working with Vaughn, Braff said he’s been a fan.
“It’s an honor. I loved Swingers when I was growing up, and I just fell in love with Vince’s style of delivery.”
Bad Monkey premieres on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
