*Iconic radio personality Angie Martinez is set to break ground on a new era by being in the director’s seat for a new documentary on hip-hop legend DJ Clark Kent.
HipHopDX reports the woman known as “The Voice of New York” will helm “God’s Favorite DJ: The Story of DJ Clark Kent.” In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Martinez referred to Kent as “a rare gem whose influence is seen in nearly every era of Hip-Hop’s history books,” while voicing her appreciation to help bring the turntablist’s story to the masses.
“With our 50-year-old culture susceptible to outside perspective and agenda, it’s important that we spotlight the heroes who push the art form with purity and authenticity,” she said. “I am honored to help share Clark’s many truths with the world,”
A founding member of the influential DJ crew The Supermen, Kent marked his start in Hip Hop working with rapper Dana Dane. Over the years, Kent emerged as a valued voice int he culture via early early-career support to Jay-Z, whom he introduced to Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Dame Dash and lyrical rhymeslayer The Notorious B.I.G. In addition to producing songs for Jay-Z (“Brooklyn’s Finest”), B.I.G (“Sky’s the Limit”), Junior M.A.F.I.A. (“Player’s Anthem”) and Mariah Carey (“Loverboy”), among others, Kent is a well-known fixture sneaker world.
“I’m honored to have Angie Martinez directing. Her entire career has been rooted in telling stories in a beautiful & meaningful way. Angie is a true icon of Hip Hop and we are very lucky to have her guiding this project,” Kent stated about Martinez’s involvement with “God’s Favorite DJ.”

Among those featured in the documentary will be Jay-Z, DJ Khaled, and Questlove, among others.
News of Martinez’s directorial debut marks the latest in a history of career highlights for the Radio Hall of Famer, author and podcaster.
Beyond the airwaves, Martinez made waves as a rapper with appearances on “KRS-One’s “Heartbeat,” Lil’ Kim’s Grammy-nominated “Ladies’ Night remix, and “Beenie Man’s “Tell Me.”
Before her 2003 retirement, Martinez released two albums, 2001’s “Up Close and Personal,” which featured the Pharrell Williams and Q-Tip-assisted single, “Dem Thangz” and 2002’s “Animal House,” which included “If I Could Go” featuring Sacario and Lil’ Mo, her highest charting tune to date.
