*The third season of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” kicked off December 1. Actor London Brown told EUR exclusively that fans “think they know where the storyline is going to go,” this time around, “but the writers always have an interesting twist for the characters and the dynamics of the family,” he revealed.
“Raising Canan tells the origin story of fan-favorite character Kanan Stark (MeKai Curtis), originally played by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson in the flagship “Power” series. According to the series synopsis: “This season delves further into his evolution from the devoted son of Raquel “Raq” Thomas (Patina Miller) into the eventual ferocious, amoral and pragmatic personality fans know from ‘Power,’” per the official synopsis.
“Season three picks up where we left off, in Southside Jamaica Queens with the Thomas family in turmoil and reeling from the Mob’s coordinated attack on Raquel, Marvin, and Lou-Lou,” the series description continues.
“He’s going to have to deal with obstacles and re-directions and truth that he didn’t see coming and truth that he did see coming,” MeKai Curtis told EUR exclusively about Kanan.
“It is all about how he puts one foot in front of the other and keeps his mind on his ultimate goal of finding the truth, which is finding who he’s right now,” he continued, adding, “because his sense of self and his sense of the world has been shaken up, jumbled and destroyed in the last two seasons.”
Series star Patina Miller told us, “A lot of things are happening this season that are out of her control,” she said of her character.
“Her son is doing his own thing. She has to deal with her son and her baby daddy in alignment and what that means,” Miller added. “Howard is not going away. They’re in this thing together where they have to keep their secret under wraps because Howard’s job is affected. It’s dangerous for everyone. If anything happens, they’re all less safe.”
Meanwhile, co-star Malcolm Mays says his character “Lou-Lou Thomas,” faces many “trials and tribulations” this season, including “his own demons.”
“It’s his own choices,” Mays continued. “It’s his own family history and his own inability to be accountable for some of the things he’s done. That’s his journey.”
“Kanan” co-star Hailey Kilgore described her character “Jukebox” as a “kid in a very, very unfortunate environment for a multitude of reasons.” This season, however, viewers will see a “saucy or manipulative” side of her.
