*Webbies, it’s hump day and things are real out here in these streets for Social Heat. Prakazrel “Pras” Michel, a member of the hip hop Grammy-winning triumvirate group the Fugees, was convicted on Wednesday for ten criminal counts “of funneling money from a now-fugitive Malaysian financer through straw donors to Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign, then trying to squelch a Justice Department investigation and influence an extradition case on behalf of China under the Trump administration,” according to the AP. We must ask how you got caught up with all this mess; who are you protecting?

SyRai, daughter of the vocal Bible Brandy, had something to say to those who fat-shamed her in the past and put her thoughts into a cute TikTok. Yes, niece, bypass those haters; they do not need to partake in your glow-up!

Courtney Bee Bledsoe came for her boss/co-host Nick Cannon by pointing out he fumbled his relationship with Grammy winner Mariah Carey on the “The Daily Cannon” podcast. He retorted, “Maybe she fumbled me.” Oop, (leans in closer) do tell Nicholas Scott Cannon; inquiring minds would love to know.

Larenz Tate addressed the Black-British invasion in Hollywood. He feels Tinseltown is infatuated with the UK and does not value African-American actors. However, Larenz doesn’t view his British cousins as competition but sees opportunities Black people receive through the lens of a collective. Journalist Jemele Hill stepped into the comment section and said, “Agree with Larenz’s comments, but can’t let Hollywood gatekeepers — most of whom are white — create division within our community. They benefit from the narrative that jobs are being stolen from Black American actors because it keeps us out of community with one another. It forces the pressure away from them to create more roles for Black people, period. I’ve interviewed several Black British actors — Damson Idris, Naomie Ackie, Idris Elba, etc — and what was very apparent is the respect and reverence they have for Black American actors. Realize the reason their American accents are so good is because they grew up watching all of our classic movies — Friday, Boyz n the Hood, Love Jones, etc. That’s why Larenz said it was a hoax that Black movies don’t translate well overseas. That’s a weak excuse Hollywood uses to justify lower pay for Black actors and lower budgets for Black movies.” We highly recommend viewing this doc, “They’ve Gotta Have Us,” which will help further the conversation of Black-American representation in Hollywood.
