Hoult plays R. M. Renfield, the indentured servant, and Cage plays Count Dracula, the narcissistic boss.

Q: In this film, Renfield doesn’t get to choose his assistant position but if you could choose to be anyone’s assistant, who would you pick and why?

NC: All my heroes have passed on. I would have liked to have been [director] Stanley Kubrick’s (The Shinning) assistant or Marlon Brando’s assistant. I probably would have learned something. I never got to work with them.

NH: Paul Newman, because I’m into racing and he was into racing. So I’d like to have also been at the track with him.

Q: What scene did you enjoy filming?

NC: We both love the studio apartment scene.

NH: …Nick did so beautifully on set. He drew from so many different inspirations, whether it’s Anne Bancroft from “The Graduate”…I never knew which version of Dracula I’d be getting, which made it really fun for Renfield because he’s obviously been in this minster for a long time with Dracula. It’s always keeping him on the back foot of how’s he going to try and navigate this moment with him. The charm, the heart, the pain and fun of all that was really great to act with.

And is directed by Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War, The LEGO Batman Movie); based on an original idea by The Walking Dead and Invincible creator Robert Kirkman.
