*Mannie Fresh is speaking out about the backlash he received last year after collaborating with Juvenile and Mia X on a “Back That Azz Up” remake titled “Vax That Thang Up”.

The song was meant to encourage people to take the COVIV jab, but many were left outraged over what was considered another lame propaganda stunt orchestrated by Democrats as part of their vaccination push.

“Girl you look good once you vax that thang up,” Juvenile raps on the hook, “You a handsome young brother once you vax that thang up/Dating in real life, you need to vax that thang up/Feeling freaky all night, you need to vax that thang up.”

“When we did the ‘Vax That Thang Up’ song or whatever, it wasn’t a song—it was just a parody telling people to get vaccinated,” Mannie Fresh said in a new interview with AllHipHop. “But it was something that I believed in and I was saying to folks, ‘If you don’t, it’s okay. You don’t have to go and do this. It’s not that serious.’”

“But there were people saying, ‘You destroyed the song and this song was the greatest song!’” Mannie continued. “And I’m like, ‘Do you know the title of the song?’ It’s called ‘Back That Azz Up.’ I’m like, ‘Did you listen to the lyrics of this song?’”

The “Vax That Thang Up” track was part of a campaign by the dating app BLK to encourage users to get inoculated against COVID-19.

The song features Cash Money icon Mannie Fresh (who appeared on the original) and Mia X of No Limit, marking the first time the two New Orleans labels linked for a project.

In a statement, Juvenile previously said of the song: “I just wanted to do something positive for my people and to stand in the front to show that I’m willing to sacrifice my life not just for me but also for my family, We don’t know what we’re facing right now but we really do all need to be vaccinated so we can continue to do our thing and survive.”

Do you think the backlash to the pro-vaxx song was warranted? Sound off in the comments.
