*Malia Obama is making a short film that Emmy-winner Donald Glover’s new production company Gilga will develop.

In an interview with GQ, Glover said he told the daughter of Barack and Michelle Obama “she will only get to do this once,” adding “You’re Obama’s daughter. So if you make a bad film, it will follow you around.”

Fam Udeorji, a creative partner at Gilga, also told the publication, “Understanding somebody like Malia’s cachet means something. But we really wanted to make sure she could make what she wanted—even if it was a slow process.”

He added, “It’s more about diversity of thought than just, like, diversity for optics. You know what I mean?”

We reported previously that Malia made her TV writing debut with Prime Video’s new thriller series “Swarm.”

The series hails from Glover and co-creator Janine Nabers, who worked together on “Atlanta.” Per the official synopsis: “Swarm, set between 2016-2018, follows Dre (Dominque Fishback), an obsessed fan of the world’s biggest pop star who sets off on an unexpected cross-country journey. Dre’s obsession with a popular musician has her committing obscene acts, but how far will her infatuation take her?”

Nabers, who serves as the series showrunner, told ET that Obama’s episode, titled “Girl, Bye,” is one of the “wildest” episodes this season.

“I think it’s going to surprise a lot of people. It’s pretty dope. I’m really proud of it,” Nabers said.

“Some of her pitches were wild as hell, and they were just so good and so funny,” Nabers said of the former first daughter. “She’s an incredible writer. She brought a lot to the table… She’s really, really dedicated to her craft,” Nabers shared.

Glover also praised Malia’s writing skills in a 2022 interview with Vanity Fair.

“She’s just like, an amazingly talented person,” Glover told the publication. “She’s really focused, and she’s working really hard.”

He added, “I feel like she’s just somebody who’s gonna have really good things coming soon. Her writing style is great.”
