*A Black food truck owner has lawyered up with famed civil rights attorney Ben Crump after being brutally beaten by a racist white man in Southeast Portland.
The attack was captured on video and shared online to help track down the vicious thug, according to OregonLive. The violent assault occurred as Darell Preston, owner of LoRell’s Chicken Shack, was on the phone with his wife trying to deliver food.
A white male identified as Daniel Thomas Warren, 40, blindsided Preston and repeatedly punched him in an unprovoked attack. Warren also stomped on Preston while he was on the ground and called him the N-word.
“I hit you n***, stay on the ground!” witness LeDuc Montgomery quoted the attacker as saying, KGW 8 reports.
According to a GoFundMe organized by his brother-in-law, Preston was “blindsided by his attacker, and repeatedly punched and stomped suffering a broken nose, fractured face, and lacerations to his eyes and mouth,” the campaign states.
“Darell is a local community business owner known for his phenomenal Chicago-style chicken, his big heart, and even bigger smile. Due to this attack, he will be unable to work his cart causing an obvious financial burden on himself and our family,” the campaign continues.
Preston was left so traumatized by the June 15 incident that he could barely talk to the police when they arrived at the scene following the assault, according to a spokesperson for the police department.
“It took officers several minutes to convince the victim to come out of the foot cart to talk with them,” spokesperson Terri Wallo Strauss said, The Root reports. “Once the victim was out he told officers he was delivering food and was ‘attacked.’ When the officer asked for more detail on exactly what happened, the victim refused to say more and locked himself in the cart.”
Portland police have been unable to locate Warren. Once his identity was plastered on the internet, many social media users noted that he gives cop-vibes, which would explain why local police claim they can’t locate him — some people have speculated.
