*Richmond, Va. police officer Mervin Mayo, also a singer “since the age of eight or nine years old, beginning in the church choir,” on March 4 post video of himself rehearsing Marvin Sapp’s “The Best in Me” for church the following Sunday.

Mayo told policeone.com that he often records his rehearsals to listen back and critique himself, and sometimes he posts the videos. For some reason, this particular rehearsal went viral. His anointed pipes quickly resonated with viewers, as the clip has amassed more than a million views on Facebook and more than 40,000 shares.

Officer Mayo has been with the Richmond Police Department since 2005 and now serves as a school resource officer at Richmond Alternative School. Mayo says he hopes everyone who sees the video feels encouraged. “It really doesn’t matter what you’re going through. The song says, “God sees the best in you,” he added.
