*This past Saturday, May 12, the 2nd Annual Mid-City Arts and Music Festival took over Washington Boulevard between Rampau and Vineland Streets with live art sessions, two stages with musical guests of all types, as well as food trucks galore!
Local Families came out and enjoyed a day full of fun and excitement that was capped off by a performance by recording stars DJ Battlecat and the G Funk All-Stars with special guest Warren G., Fernando Pullum Community Art Center Jazz Youth, and a new Hip Hop group called The.Wav.
Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson delivered a speech rallying support for cultural events like the Mid-City Music and Arts Festival and ensuring a better celebration next year.
Musicians, artists, business owners and residents mingled along the broad lanes of Washington for a day filled with entertainment and fun. Live paint sessions from local artists sat adjacent to the second stage towards Vineland Street. A beer garden entertained the adults to the side and food trucks lined the center. Tables and chairs remained packed with good people eating delicious foods. Towards the Rampau Street side, a sculpture garden featured some interesting works of art.
“It’s a positive fun way to become engaged with the local community,” explained Kelly, a member of The.Wav. “It’s great to see local artists, families and community leaders enjoying each other’s company and contributions.”
On the main stage, DJ Battlecat controlled the music along with DJ Qwest Coast, whom together, provided most of the music.
“We partnered with Los Angeles staple DJ Qwess Coast,” added Kelly of The.Wav regarding how they became involved with Wesson and his Arts and Music Festival. “[Wesson] been a strong leader and bridge builder within the L.A. area for years. We’ve been working together to bring even more positive programming to the community and this was one of the first collective steps in that direction.”
