*Wienerschnitzel, the world’s largest hot dog chain, is taking a bold step beyond beef with the nationwide debut of its Southern Bird Dogs, crispy chicken tenders served in hot dog buns, now available at all 300+ locations across the U.S., per the news release.
Inspired by a beloved South Carolina specialty, the new Bird Dogs blend regional flavor with Wienerschnitzel’s signature comfort food approach. Each Bird Dog starts with a marinated, breaded chicken tender nestled in a traditional hot dog bun and dressed in one of three bold flavor combinations:
- Bacon Ranch – Topped with diced bacon, fresh tomato slices, and creamy ranch.
- Buffalo Ranch – Featuring zesty buffalo sauce, ranch, and tomato slices.
- BBQ – Stacked with grilled onions, a dill pickle spear, and smoky barbecue sauce.

“South Carolina is known for its Bird Dogs, and since they’re served in hot dog buns, it felt like a natural way to introduce chicken to our fans,” said Doug Koegeboehn, Chief Marketing Officer at Wienerschnitzel. “Once we tried them, we knew we had a winner.”
In addition to the new lineup, guests can order tenders à la carte or opt for one of two combo meals:
- Regular Combo – 2 chicken tenders, fries, and dipping sauce
- Large Combo – 4 chicken tenders, large fries, and two sauces
This marks a major chicken-forward move for the chain, best known for selling over 120 million hot dogs annually. Founded in 1961, Wienerschnitzel continues to expand its reach and menu while sticking to its mission: Serving Food to Serve Others.
