*Get ready for more love, laughter, and family moments as “Toya & Reginae” returns for its highly anticipated second season!
I had the exclusive opportunity to sit down with Toya Johnson-Rushing and her daughter, Reginae Carter, to talk about what fans can expect from the all-new season. With eight must-see episodes that premiered January 24, on WE tv—and streaming exclusively on ALLBLK—this season promises even more drama, growth, and unforgettable mother-daughter moments.
This season, the stakes are higher and the drama deeper for Toya and Reginae. Per the official synopsis: “Toya’s excitement over her brother Walter’s return home from prison quickly fades as tension bubbles up within the family and her personal life. Meanwhile, Reginae hustles to land a major acting role, all while keeping a mysterious new relationship under wraps. From family milestones to personal challenges and triumphs, this season promises to be the realest, rawest, most unfiltered season yet!” the description continues.
Fans will see Toya takes on the role of a mentor, especially when it comes to guiding Reginae in both her personal and professional life. Balancing motherly support with career advice isn’t always easy, especially when tensions arise—but Toya embraces the responsibility with wisdom and patience.
“I’m a mother first, so even though I might tell her some things that she may not want to hear because she’s also grown, she makes her own decisions, she lives alone, pay her own bills… but I’m going to always give her advice. I don’t care how old she get… that’s just who I am. That’s what I do with my kids,” Toya explained.
“I want them to be the best. I want them to excel in life but I also want them to learn. They also have to learn from their own mistakes. But it’s not going to stop me from giving you advice and what you decide to do with it, that’s on you. I’m going to always give you advice and check you when I feel like you’re getting out of hand,” she added.
This season, Reginae’s spending habits become a hot topic of discussion, with her mom weighing in on her financial choices. While Toya’s concerns come from a place of love, viewers will see Reginae navigate the challenge of balancing her independence while acknowledging her mother’s guidance.
“Our family, we’re very real, raw and uncut. I know that whatever we go through in our real lives, I knew that it would eventually come out on the show. But as far as my spending habits, yeah, my mom knows that sometimes it could be a little bad,” Reginae said. “But I’m learning the more that I get older, the more that I grow, I’m learning to be better with that. Especially moving to L.A. taught me too because I feel like out here, everything in Atlanta, it’s cheaper. When I moved to L.A. I’m like, oh! I never looked at a price until now, it’s different now. So I’m glad that my mom is still there and going to always be there to keep me on my P’s and my Q’s.”
