*Tiger Woods placed a call to Donald Trump in the aftermath of his March 27 rollover crash, shortly before his DUI arrest, according to newly released police footage, TMZ reports.
We reported earlier… the body cam captures the golfer interacting with officers as they conducted field sobriety tests at the scene. When authorities informed Woods he would be taken into custody, he appeared surprised and asked, “I’m being arrested?” An officer replied, “At this time, I do believe your normal faculties are impaired.”
Investigators also documented items found on Woods during a search. Officers recovered nicotine-free “focus pouches” along with two opioid pills, which Woods identified as Norco. The medication, which contains acetaminophen and hydrocodone, was later confirmed by law enforcement.
Woods also described what led to the accident, telling officers, “I looked down at my phone, and boom,” as he explained how quickly the crash occurred. At another moment, he briefly walked away from the patrol car, prompting officers to call him back. As he returned, he was heard speaking on the phone, saying, “Thank you so much. All right. You got it. Bye.” Woods then told officers, “Yeah, I was just talking with the President.”
Trump addressed the situation publicly before news of the arrest became widely known. Speaking near Air Force One, he said, “I feel so bad. He’s got some difficulty — there was an accident, and that’s all I know.” He continued, “A very close friend of mine, he’s an amazing person, an amazing man. But some difficulty. I don’t want to talk about it.” Woods is dating Trump’s former daughter-in-law, Vanessa.
The incident occurred just one day after a judge approved Woods’ request to travel abroad for medical care. Court filings noted his condition required specialized treatment not available in the United States. His attorney, Douglas Duncan, stated that “ongoing medical scrutiny and public exposure create significant barriers to his care,” a factor the court considered in allowing the trip.
