*Production is underway on Footage Films’ upcoming thriller “Stepfather,” with Taye Diggs and Tamar Braxton set to lead the cast as filming moves forward in Los Angeles. The project is being helmed by director Chris Stokes, who co-wrote the film with Marques Houston.
Stokes and Houston are also executive producers on the feature slated to premiere on Tubi in 2026. Per Variety, Diggs takes on the role of Darnell, a man haunted by a history of childhood abuse that mutates into a dangerous fixation on building the flawless family he never had. When his new family falls short of the rigid standard he clings to, he responds with lethal determination as he begins the search all over again.
Braxton portrays his wife, Asia, who becomes entangled in Darnell’s dark and escalating obsession with perfection. The film’s logline captures the stakes clearly: “After years of eradicating any family that falls short of perfection, Darnell ( Diggs) believes his new wife Asia (Braxton) and her daughters might finally be the real deal. That is, until tensions rise and they uncover his deadly pattern. Now, getting rid of them won’t be as easy as he planned.”
Meanwhile, Braxton recently addressed online speculation claiming she was involved romantically with reality star Mendeecees Harris, who appeared as her love interest in her “Heartbreak Renegade” music video. In a statement shared on Instagram, she highlighted the work she put into the project, saying, “This summer I poured my heart into Heartbreak Renegade, a project that includes a six-song EP and a short film. Seeing it reach #1 on the iTunes R&B charts and Top 20 overall has meant the world to me and my team. Your support has been incredible!”

She firmly rejected the allegations, adding, “Let me be clear: this is a lie. It’s sad that the moment you achieve something meaningful, some people choose to respond with gossip and sensationalism.” Braxton also noted the impact of the rumors on everyone connected. “These rumors don’t just touch me — they touch our families, our kids, our loved ones, the people who never asked to be dragged into nonsense,” she said, later emphasizing she would let legal counsel handle the matter and closing with, “Playtime is OVER.”
Speculation intensified after YouTuber Funky Dineva claimed he witnessed inappropriate behavior between Braxton and Harris, alleging in a video, “I literally saw them making out in the Uber. She was sitting on his lap, kissing all over him, tongue and everything.” He also referenced an incident in which Braxton suffered facial injuries, saying, “If anybody know who happened and what happened to your damn teeth, it’s Mendeecees and his best friend because they’re the ones who went upstairs with ya.”
Braxton previously shared that she was recovering after being “found in a pool of blood,” writing, “I fractured my nose, lost some teeth and mobility. The way I look at life now is totally different.”
