*McDonald’s is leaning into nostalgia and collector frenzy by bringing Squishmallows back to the Happy Meal for the first time since 2023.
The company confirmed the limited‑time promotion on May 13, noting that fans have “waited patiently for two years.” In the words of its Menu Spotter post, “Happy Meal fans gather ‘round… there’s a new squad on the block that you won’t want to miss out on.”
The refreshed lineup spans 12 plush figures, headlined by a debut character: Halley, a “never‑before‑seen Intergalactic Axolotl.” Each toy arrives in a mystery bag and includes a hang tag with its name, a short bio, and a scannable code that unlocks an interactive game. According to a company spokesperson, the boxes will disappear after Monday, June 9, giving collectors less than a month to complete the set.
As TODAY reports, TikTok’s #squishmallows tag hosts more than 688,000 videos, and full 12‑piece sets from the new Happy Meal are popping up on eBay for $50–$85.
“Inside each Happy Meal box, you will find your classic McDonald’s order of choice, along with one of 12 adorable Squishmallows, including a never-before-seen Intergalactic Axolotl named Halley,” said McDonald’s in a press release. “Each Squishmallows comes with a character hang tag, telling you the name and a little about each Squish, plus a code to scan and immerse yourself in an interactive game.”

McDonald’s could use the excitement. First‑quarter results revealed a 3.6 percent year‑over‑year sales dip and a 3 percent slide in operating income, The Street reports. CEO Chris Kempczinski warned investors on May 1 that customers are tightening their wallets.
“We entered 2025 knowing that it would be a challenging time for the QSR industry due to macroeconomic uncertainty and pressures weighing on the consumer… geopolitical tensions added to the economic uncertainty and dampened consumer sentiment more than we expected,” Kempczinski said.
By pairing a hit collectible with the chain’s signature kids’ meal, McDonald’s hopes Halley and friends will draw families back through its doors, and give shareholders something to smile about.
