*Sheinelle Jones, co-host of the 3rd Hour of “TODAY,” will return to Studio 1A on Friday, marking her first appearance since the passing of her husband, Uche Ojeh, in May 2025.
Uche, aged 45, succumbed to glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive brain cancer, after a courageous battle. The couple, married for nearly 18 years, shared three children: Kayin, born in 2009, and twins Clara and Uche Jr., born in 2012.
Their love story began in the late 1990s at Northwestern University, where Sheinelle, then a freshman, met Uche, a high school senior visiting the campus. They wed in September 2007 in Philadelphia, Sheinelle’s hometown.

Uche was a pillar of quiet strength, supporting Sheinelle’s high-profile career while thriving in his own work in business and technology. “There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person,” said Savannah Guthrie in May, reflecting on his impact, per NBC News. “We all loved him. And so we want to take a moment to tell you more about the remarkable man who was Sheinelle’s perfect partner in life.”
In a poignant interview with Guthrie, Sheinelle will open up about her family’s grief, describing the experience as a “beautiful nightmare.”
She will also share a message of hope for others facing personal struggles. Her return to “TODAY” follows a leave of absence announced in January due to a family health matter, a time dedicated to supporting Uche during his illness.
