*Vivek Ramaswamy is catching heat for blaming 90s sitcoms for tech companies hiring smarter Indian immigrant workers over white males.
Ramaswamy, a leader of the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative, recently discussed the decline in U.S. innovation in science and technology. He noted that tech companies increasingly rely on skilled foreign-born and first-generation workers over less motivated American employees.
“A culture that celebrates the prom queen over the math olympiad champ, or the jock over the valedictorian, will not produce the best engineers,” he wrote in a post on X.
“A culture that venerates Cory from Boy Meets World or Zach & Slater over Screech in Saved by the Bell, or ‘Stefan’ over Steve Urkel in Family Matters will not produce the best engineers,” Ramaswamy noted.
“We’ve awaken from slumber before & we can do it again,” added Ramaswamy, the child of immigrants to the U.S. “Trump’s election hopefully marks the beginning of a new golden era in America, but only if our culture fully wakes up.”
Maybe this is a helpful clarification: I am referring to bringing in via legal immigration the top ~0.1% of engineering talent as being essential for America to keep winning.
This is like bringing in the Jokic’s or Wemby’s of the world to help your whole team (which is mostly… https://t.co/mtd0cgkNvE

His comments are part of a wider online debate about the immigrant takeover within the tech industry, with Elon Musk also expressing his support for granting visas to foreign tech workers.
As we reported earlier, Musk, who has a history rooted in immigration—having overstayed his own visa when he first arrived in the U.S.—argued that the current talent shortage in Silicon Valley is a critical barrier to American innovation and competitiveness. His comments highlight an emerging ideological schism within Trump’s political base, particularly regarding immigration policy.
In a tweet that has since circulated widely, Musk cited the “fundamental limiting factor” of a shortage of top engineering talent in America, emphasizing the necessity of immigrant workers to bridge this gap.
“If you force the world’s best talent to play for the other side, America will LOSE. End of story,” Musk asserted in response to the criticism he received. He maintained that many of his companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, rely on skilled foreign-born engineers to thrive in a competitive global landscape.
Musk’s observation of the state of U.S. engineering talent triggered outrage from the Trump base.
“There is a permanent shortage of excellent engineering talent,” Musk wrote on Wednesday on X. “It is the fundamental limiting factor in Silicon Valley.”
The “number of people who are super talented engineers AND super motivated in the USA is far too low,” he later added. “Think of this like a pro sports team: if you want your TEAM to win the championship, you need to recruit top talent wherever they may be. That enables the whole TEAM to win.”
My 12 hour suspension is now over. In our previous report, we noted that Laura Loomer, a controversial figure and ally of Trump, clapped back at Elon’s provocative statements, saying America does not need skilled immigrant labor.
“Our country was built by white Europeans, actually. Not third-world invaders from India,” Loomer tweeted, adding that America’s infrastructure was not intended to be “exploited by pro-open border techies.”
Her comments allegedly enraged Musk to the point that she was temporarily suspended on his X (formally Twitter) platform.
“X removed my verification, my subs, and my ability to get premium again,” Loomer tweeted.
In a follow-up post on Dec. 27, she wrote, “My 12 hour suspension is now over. For raising concerns and speaking the truth about the technocratic takeover of our country and the White House via influence peddling by billionaire crony technocrats, I have been stripped of my Premium account, blue check, & my subscriptions!”
She added in a separate post, “To my subscribers, despite the lie sent out by X, I didn’t deactivate your subscriptions. You are being denied free will by a so called “free speech platform” to direct your spending toward causes and people you wish to support because I dared to challenge Big Tech’s authority.”
