
*North Carolina A&T State University is preparing for a high-profile commencement season in 2026, with Queen Latifah set to serve as the keynote speaker for its undergraduate ceremonies.
The university announced that the multitalented, award-winning performer, producer and cultural icon will address graduates during the May celebrations in Greensboro, North Carolina, according to HBCU Gameday. The events are scheduled for Saturday, May 9, and will take place at First Horizon Coliseum. Two separate baccalaureate ceremonies will be held that day, with the first beginning at 9 a.m. and the second following at 2:30 p.m. Together, they will honor thousands of graduating students across multiple academic disciplines.
Per the university, “Nearly 2,000 undergraduate students and almost 350 graduate students will participate during the ceremonies, which will be livestreamed.”
North Carolina A&T noted that the morning ceremony will recognize graduates from programs including agriculture, education, engineering, and health sciences. The afternoon event will feature students from business, science, arts, and humanities disciplines.
In addition to Queen Latifah’s appearance, alumna Dr. Nia Danielle Banks will speak at the graduate commencement ceremony on May 8. She “founded the Beaux Arts Institute of Plastic Surgery where she remains on the cutting edge in the field of cosmetic surgery,” per the university, adding, “In 2020, she opened the Art of Balance Wellness Spa with a business partner to meet the growing needs of her cosmetic surgery clients and provide wellness therapies, spa experiences and aesthetic treatments.” Banks is also is a “commissioner of the Maryland Economic Development Commission, member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., and trustee for Baltimore Center Stage.”
University officials emphasized that selecting speakers of this caliber reflects their goal of pairing academic accomplishment with broader cultural impact. Queen Latifah’s presence is expected to serve as an inspiring moment for graduates as they prepare to begin the next stage of their lives.
