*A fast-food worker in Florida is facing felony charges after allegedly using a customer’s credit card to send money to a prison inmate.
Chaniqua Richberg, 48, was arrested at a Popeyes in Palm Coast after a customer reported suspicious activity at the drive-thru, WFLA.com reports. According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, the victim noticed Richberg tap her card twice, once for the meal and again on a cell phone. Hours later, a $311.90 charge appeared on the victim’s account.
Detectives traced the transaction to a commissary deposit made to an inmate at Apalachee Correctional Institution, a men’s prison in Sneads, Florida.
“This woman thought she could get away with stealing from a customer and giving money to a state prison inmate,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “But unlucky for her, the customer was paying attention… now Richberg gets to join her friend in jail!”
Staly added, “I encourage everyone to be attentive during transactions and report anything suspicious to law enforcement.”
