*Novo Nordisk is dramatically cutting the prices of three of its most widely used medications, effective January 1, 2027.
The Independent reports that Wegovy will be reduced from $1,350 to $675 per month, Ozempic will drop from $1,027 to $675, and the diabetes pill Rybelsus will fall from nearly $1,000 to $675. The cuts will apply to all patients, with or without insurance coverage.
According to CBS News, the reductions represent one of the most significant pricing shifts the weight loss and diabetes drug market has seen in years. Wegovy, a GLP-1 injectable prescribed for chronic weight management, has faced widespread criticism for being financially out of reach for many Americans. The 50% price cut could open the door for millions of patients who have previously been unable to afford the medication despite having a clinical need for it.

Ozempic, originally developed to treat Type 2 diabetes, has seen explosive demand in recent years, partly fueled by its off-label use as a weight loss aid. The price cut signals that Novo Nordisk is responding to mounting public and political pressure to make its drugs more financially accessible across a broader patient population.
Novo Nordisk clarified that the reductions apply to list prices and will not affect existing direct-to-consumer discount programs. The announcement comes as pharmaceutical pricing faces intensifying scrutiny from lawmakers and health advocates who have long pushed for more affordable access to life-changing medications.
“Private and public payers, as well as patients, want access and have been calling for lower list prices,” Jamey Miller, executive vice president of U.S. operations for Novo Nordisk, said in a statement.
Novo Nordisk’s announcement could prompt competitors in the GLP-1 drug space to reconsider their own pricing structures.
Both Wegovy and Ozempic are listed on Trumprx.gov, an online platform launched by the Trump administration that offers discounted pricing on 40 medications.
