*Nicki Minaj found herself at the center of political controversy this weekend after publicly thanking President Donald Trump for his stance on religious persecution in Nigeria.
Trump posted on Truth Social about what he described as violence against Christians in Nigeria, though the Nigerian government has denied these allegations. “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria,” Trump wrote. “Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a ‘COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN’ — But that is the least of it. When Christians, or any such group, is slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria (3,100 versus 4,476 Worldwide), something must be done!”
Nicki responded with appreciation for the president’s statement. “Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude,” she wrote. “We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other. Numerous countries all around the world are being affected by this horror & it’s dangerous to pretend we don’t notice. Thank you to The President & his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer.”
U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Mike Waltz subsequently invited Minaj to the U.S. Embassy for further discussion. “I’d be honored,” Minaj replied. “Thank you, ambassador.”
Conservative figures applauded the rapper’s statement to Trump. However, the post triggered intense backlash from her liberal fanbase on social media. One critic wrote that Minaj’s remarks represented “the normalization of this disgusting administration.” Another angry commenter posted on X, “Millions of families can’t feed their families today due to this government shutdown & Nicki Minaj using her platform to praise Donald Trump. What a weird a** b- -ch! I hope that next line you sniff takes you out b- -ch.”
As the Hindu Times reports, others claimed that Minaj is a Republican, as one person wrote, “Nicki minaj is a. Republican.” Another added, “Nicki Minaj, here are your Republican cue cards. Say this: Kids, you don’t get wealthy by being “discovered” by a rich person. Or because you were seen in a cool outfit and were writing cool snaps about guns and drugs. You get wealthy by knowing math. Money is numbers.”
Despite social media rumors, Minaj has not endorsed Trump and has previously criticized his immigration positions.
