
*CBS has officially canceled “Watson” after two seasons, with the medical drama set to conclude on May 3, 2026.
Soap Opera News reports that the Morris Chestnut-led series will not return for a third installment following a sharp decline in audience numbers. After the news broke, Chestnut shared a message on Instagram reflecting on the show’s end while expressing appreciation. “Hey everybody, as the world has heard, unfortunately Watson will not be coming back for season three. Yes, it’s disappointing, but that’s the way the show biz beast is, you know. Yes, the nature of the beast, and you have to take the good with the bad.” He went on to thank fans for their loyalty and for following the series each week.
He also acknowledged the dedication of the crew, pointing to the long hours and effort that went into production. Chestnut described the environment behind the scenes as supportive and close-knit, emphasizing how much that meant during filming. He extended thanks to the writers, directors, and CBS for the chance to be part of the project.

“Thank you to the crew, the crew who gave us their blood, sweat and tears, putting in long 12, 13 hour days. I love you guys so much, you guys are there without complaining. We have such a family environment. Thank you to the crew,” he wrote.
The actor additionally spotlighted his fellow cast members, praising their performances and encouraging audiences to watch for their future work. He mentioned Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Inga Schlingmann, Ritchie Coster, and Rochelle Aytes, while also recognizing Robert Carlyle and the supporting ensemble.
“Now I want all of you guys to be on the lookout for everybody in our cast because everybody in our cast has put in phenomenal work,” Chestnut added.
“Watson” debuted on January 26, 2025, offering a new take on the Sherlock Holmes universe. The story centers on Dr. John Watson as he balances medicine with ongoing mysteries after Holmes is believed dead. In the second season, Holmes’ unexpected return reshapes the narrative before the series reaches its conclusion. New episodes air Sundays.
