*Actress Meagan Good is speaking out about the accidental bleaching of her skin following a treatment that went wrong, and the emotional weight she carried as the incident played out publicly.
Good explained during a recent appearance of The Breakfast Club that she had initially visited an esthetician seeking anti-aging care, but the professional steered the conversation toward also eliminating her dark spots. Good was hesitant, noting that her dark spots served as a “natural contour,” but the esthetician convinced her by suggesting her “skin would be so clear.”
She began using the recommended product and quickly noticed her complexion was shifting in an unexpected direction. “I start using the product. I instantly see that I’m getting lighter and she’s like, ‘Don’t worry, just give it a few weeks. All your color will come back,'” Good said, per Complex. “I give it a few weeks, and I look so pale and so crazy.”
The change became undeniable when photos taken at a New York premiere circulated online, showing her with a dramatically lighter appearance. For Good, the public assumptions that followed cut deeply.
“As a Black woman, I would never do that to myself. And it just broke my heart to think that young Black girls would think that I did that or like I don’t like myself,” she said. She described the experience as “so humiliating,” saying she had no choice but to sit with the false narrative while it spread.
Efforts to correct the damage made things worse before they got better. The esthetician applied a serum intended to reverse the bleaching, but it burned her skin instead. “I had open flesh all over my face. My face was completely discolored and it was just it was really traumatizing,” Good said in a 2020 interview with Hollywood Unlocked Uncensored.
