*Marlon Wayans is speaking out again about supporting his child Kai coming out as transgender in a new interview on “The Jennifer Hudson” show.
“I went through the five stages of grief to get to the beautiful, magical place called acceptance,” Wayans said, noting that Kai is “the same child they was before — they just got a beard now.”
Last year, the comedian shared that his eldest child was born female but now identifies as a male with They/Them pronouns. Since making the announcement, Wayans has been candid about how the experience has impacted him.
“I learned that I’m a lot stronger than I thought I was,” said Wayans of accepting his son’s transition. “I learned that my family — my brothers, my sisters — have prepared me to be a rock in our family.”

Wayans, who is also dad to sons Shawn, 22, with ex Angela Zackery, and daughter Axl, 18 months with ex Brittany Moreland, previously told PEOPLE that he went “from defiance to acceptance” of Kai’s gender identity.
When Marlon appeared on The Breakfast Club last year, he discussed his journey to accepting Kai’s transition.
“I talk about the transition, not their transition, but my transition as a parent going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance,” Wayans said at the time. “And I think there’s a lot of parents out there that need to have that message, and I know I’m dealing with it. It was a very painful situation for me,” he added.
