* “Scary Movie” is making a comeback, after nearly 20 years. When Marlon Wayans, who played Shorty Meeks in the first “Scary Movie” and its 2001 sequel, first made the announcement, fans were overjoyed but at the same time skeptical that the new franchise would retain the thrill it gave in the early 2000s.
In a follow-up interview, Wayans had to reassure the fans that the comeback would be as thrilling as the good old days. The “Scary Movie” films used to turn well-received horror movies of the time into politically incorrect parodies. Horror movies such as “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” “Scream,” and “The Ring” were some of the films mercilessly disordered by the “Scary Movie” cast.
Last October, Wayans took to X to make the comeback announcement.
“After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise!” he wrote on X. “We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.”
The excited fans repeated one common refrain: “Please don’t go woke.”
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Wayans discussed the woke-ish concerns and his take on woke culture.
“Well the Wayans, we were always woke-ish,” he said. “You have to pull from woke because that means you’re aware, right? But you have to be an equal-opportunity offender and you gotta be, you know, you gotta explore both sides. So for us, I’m not taking a side or taking a side of comedy. So I don’t even know what woke means.”
Asked about which recent horror movies the Wayans hope to tear apart and stitch back differently in the “Scary Movie” lab, he said, “Everything’s on the table.”

He added there’s plenty of material to pick from, “especially when it comes to horror.”
As for the fans looking forward to seeing the original cast back on the screens, he promised nothing but not before making it clear he and his team are trying to bring the band back together.
“You know, we’re trying to bring the band back together,” he responded. “We’ll see. I can’t make no promises. But, you know, if we’ve talked to everybody we’re looking to have a nice, fun, Scary’ reunion.”
