*We caught up with Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls, Parenthood) and Nico Santos (Crazy Rich Asians, Superstore) to talk about their roles in “The Z-Suite,” a sharp and timely new comedy premiering on Tubi on February 6.
The series follows high-powered advertising executive Monica Marks (Graham) and her fiercely loyal right-hand man Doug Garcia (Santos) as they navigate an unexpected career crisis. After a major misstep leaves them canceled and replaced by a team of ambitious Gen Z upstarts—led by social media-savvy Kriska Thompson (Madison Shamoun, The Lake)—Monica and Doug refuse to go down without a fight. What follows is a hilarious and biting generational showdown where experience meets innovation, and no marketing trick is off-limits.
With a stellar creative team behind the show, including creator and showrunner Katie O’Brien (The Santa Clauses, Teachers), “The Z-Suite” is shaping up to be a must-watch workplace comedy.
Graham says her character comes “from a world where the way you get to the top is slowly, painfully and clawing and — having to prove yourself and it is a surprise to her that everybody doesn’t understand that.”
When it comes to her sidekick Doug, Nico told us that he’s the king of person “who’s not very confident and he doesn’t really see what he has unless he’s next to Monica and Monica allows him to shine. So there’s definitely this co-dependency between the two of them.”
Monica’s ambition in “The Z-Suite” is both her greatest strength and her biggest vulnerability. As she navigates the shifting landscape of her career, Graham shared what she hopes viewers take away from her journey.
“I think we’re all always facing these kinds of challenges and asking ourselves, what’s important to me now? And is it the same as it was when I was 20 or 30 or 40? And maybe it’s time to take another look. Perhaps having a home office that looks exactly like the office office is taking it a little too far. But hopefully what you relate to in all these characters is what they’re facing, but also their humanity and how they are navigating life’s challenges in a kind of crazy, silly way at times. I think we want to give people a laugh and a break and bring them into a world that’s fun,” she explained.
“The Z-Suite” highlights the clash between two very different generations in the fast-paced world of advertising. “…starting with, do we understand each other’s literal language?” the actress stated about the generational clashes that we also see in today’s real workplace.

Graham and Santos further shared their insights on bringing these characters to life and what audiences can expect from this high-stakes advertising battle in the exclusive clip below.
Tune in to “The Z-Suite” when it debuts Thursday, Jan. 6, on Tubi with two episodes and new ones to follow each week.
